Your Dragon Will Now Take Your Order

Hidden Dragon Team4 min read

Vocabulary is one thing. Knowing what to say when a Beijing hotpot server is staring at you, the sauce bar is behind you, and someone is already asking about your broth choice is another thing entirely.

That gap is what Scenarios is for.

Real Situations, Not Textbook Exercises

Most language practice keeps you at a safe distance from the language. Repeat this phrase. Fill in the blank. Translate this sentence. It builds a foundation. It does not prepare you for the real moment.

Scenarios puts you in the room.

A server at a Tokyo ramen shop walks you through the ticket machine (食券機) and asks how firm you want your noodles. A Parisian waiter tests whether you know that "un café" means espresso, not a big milky drink. A Beijing hospital doctor gives you a rushed diagnosis and you need to find the right pharmacy window. Vendors at the Silk Market open at four times the price because you look like you will pay it. Can you prove them wrong?

These are not invented situations. They are based on real cultural moments that catch learners off guard.

How It Works

The scenario selection screen — nine built-in situations, difficulty picker, mood selector, and a goal preview before you start

Pick a scenario from the menu. Choose your difficulty, from Baby Dragon if you are just starting out to Master Dragon if you want to handle the full complexity of the situation. Your Dragon takes on a role, sets the scene, and you respond.

The conversation runs for five exchanges. Short enough to stay focused, long enough for things to get interesting. At the end, your Dragon tells you whether you achieved your goal for that scenario, and flags any grammar or vocabulary corrections from the conversation.

The goals scale with your level. At Beginner, ordering food means saying what you want and saying thank you. At Master Dragon, you are handling a reservation mix-up, a dietary restriction, splitting the bill, and navigating the broth selection process at a table where everyone has an opinion.

Built for Every Language

The cultural grounding changes depending on what you are learning.

Shopping for clothes in Chinese puts you at Beijing's Silk Market, where haggling is expected and walking away is a tactic. Shopping in Japanese puts you in a Tokyo department store, where the staff speaks formal keigo and will offer to gift-wrap your purchase before you even ask. Shopping in English puts you on Oxford Street during a sale, dealing with fitting rooms and returns policies.

Same scenario type. Entirely different conversation.

Current languages include Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, and English. Scenarios adapt automatically based on the language you are studying.

Your Own Scenario

If none of the built-in situations fit what you need, you can write your own. Set the scene, define the role your Dragon plays, and run it. Useful if you have a specific trip coming up, a real situation you want to rehearse, or just something that does not exist in the standard list.

A business dinner in Osaka. A customs conversation at Seoul Incheon. A complaint call to a French telecoms company. If you can describe it, your Dragon can play it.

Where to Find It

Scenarios is available in the Games menu, under your flashcard deck. It is a Pro feature. If you have not tried the other games yet, Scenarios sits alongside Tone Trainer, Pexeso, Jielong, and the others.

Open the games menu, pick a scenario, choose your level, and see how you do.

Your Dragon is ready to take your order.
