Can Your Phone Tell You Your Chinese Sounds Wrong? Ours Can.

Here is the thing about pronunciation practice: hearing good Chinese is not the same as producing it. You can listen to native speakers for hours and still have no idea whether your own mouth is doing the right thing. You need something to listen back.

That is what the Pronunciation Trainer does.

How It Works

Open any vocabulary card and flip it over. You will land on the Speak tab automatically.

You will see several sample sentences for the phrase you are studying, each one showing the Chinese, the pinyin, and the English translation. Pick one, hit play, and listen first. Get the sounds in your ear before you try to produce them.

When you are ready, hit "Test Your Pronunciation." Speak the sentence. Hidden Dragon scores your attempt and shows you exactly which sounds landed and which did not, syllable by syllable. Not a vague "try again" but specific feedback on where to focus.

The Goal Is Not 100%

Well, it is, but not right away.

Work your way up to a clean score on the sounds first. Once your pronunciation is accurate, the trainer shifts focus to intonation and fluency, the rhythm and flow of connected speech. That is the difference between sounding correct and sounding natural.

Accuracy first. Then flow.

Try It on 龙

If you want to see it in action before committing to a full study session, open the demo card for 龙. It is a good one to start with.

Pronunciation is the skill most apps quietly skip because it is hard to automate well. If you have been studying Chinese and secretly worried that nobody can understand you, this is where to start.
